Asphalt is a black substance made from sand crushed rock and liquid tar.
Sealcoat is a black liquid substance applied to new or old driveways or parking lots to protect your asphalt surface from the elements. It also protects your asphalt surface from oil stains, gas stains. It also prevents water in the winter time from getting into the pores of asphalt, freezing therefore causing stones in the asphalt to break loose and chip away. Sealcoating can be applied shortly after a job is completed or anytime thereafter. It is your preference. You can also apply Sealcoating to older driveways or parking lots to give it a newer cleaner look.
It is recommended that you have a sealer applied once once every four years. The type of sealcoat we use is Slurryseal. It has some sand in it so it doesn't get slippery in wet weather and in the winter time it provides better traction.
Residential driveways require an average thickness of 2" of asphalt. If gravel is needed as well, the average amount of gravel would be 4".
Commercial driveways have an average thickness of 1-1/2" - 4" of asphalt and an average of 6" of gravel.
THERE ARE THREE TYPES OF ASPHALT THAT WE USE:
